KJV NOTE-TAKER'S BIBLE - Zondervan Publishing

Every now and then I like to go “Old School” when I read the Bible. Zondervan’s KJV NOTE-TAKER’S BIBLE is up for the task. As a standard King James version of the Bible without commentaries, cute affirmations, maps or any of the other bells and whistles you would find in a study Bible I could see me wanting to purchase the KJV NOTE-TAKER’S BIBLE as a gift for many of my friends.

Yes, Jesus words are in red, for a new reader this is important for everyone else it is the blank margins and the space at the bottom of each page that becomes attractive. There are those who would not mark in their Bible under any circumstances if this is you Zondervan has plenty of boring King James Bibles with maps. Flipping through the pages I can see someone creating their own Bible Commentary.
The KJV NOTE-TAKER’S BIBLE is perfect for individuals who attend churches in which the Pastor suggest underlining, making notes, and presents cross references to a particular verse as well as the serious Bible reader. There really is enough space in the margins for comments and extensive notes can be written on the bottom (as if it was a commentary).
Needless to say I recommend the KJV NOTE-TAKER’S BIBLE. In the past few months I have reviewed a number of Bibles and have given them away- I am keeping this one!

PRAY THE SCRIPTURES WHEN LIFE HURTS by Kevin Johnson

It does not matter how many friends and family you have or how often you see your therapist going through a difficult time is a solo event. PRAY THE SCRIPTURES WHEN LIFE HURTS by Kevin Johnson validates the emotions and points the reader in the direction of hope and healing.
Agony, Loneliness, Questions, Resentment Requests, Frustration, Peace, Surrender and Hope are not just chapter titles they are words that describe the experiences of many. The format of each chapter is easy to follow as an individual or in a group setting. There are numerous Bible verses which facilitate the reader examining his or her feeling.
PRAY THE SCRIPTURES shares the emotional place the author was in during a time of adversity. Many will tell you there is no easy way to cope with pain, even drugs cannot help you escape, it is only through faith that you are able to go through the valley and not go to.
PRAY THE SCRIPTURES is not a book of prayers that incorporates Bible verses but a book of Bible Verses that can be incorporated in ones prayer. There are all types of pain all sorts of reasons a person may feel hopeless but PRAY THE SCRIPTURES can help anyone who believes. By using this book as a healing tool the reader or group leader will open the door for the Holy Spirit to do what drugs or man cannot restore the believer.
I recommend this book. Disclosure of Material Connection: I received this book free from the publisher through the Bethany book review bloggers program. I was not required to write a positive review. HINDS' FEET ON HIGH PLACES by Hannah Hurnard

Life is a journey, where you go and how far you go depends totally on you. Many people refuse to travel outside of their comfort zone, some allow others to dictate how to live life, very few people ignore the opinions of others and seek the desires of their heart. HINDS’ FEET ON HIGH PLACES by Hannah Hurnard is a classic allegory that examines the decisions Much Afraid, the main character, made about her life.
Because HINDS’ FEET ON HIGH PLACES is an allegory, many people have difficulty following this type of writing style but I can only tell you to stick to it.
You can find the synopsis of the book anywhere, feel free to read the back of the book, what I think you should know is this book is about life and faith. We all can relate to the various personalities and other struggles the main character was forced to deal with. Who does not understand how the wrong perspective can hold you back from succeeding in life. For me the most important concept, which is why this book is such a great read, was how faith was developed through the negative characters and self-identity struggles Much Afraid had to deal with. If you are honest you will not only enjoy this book but you will begin to relate to one of the characters in the book (which is what makes a novel go from good to great)and you will learn from it.
The first time I read this book I so identified with Much Afraid her journey became my journey. Today I see myself as a worker in His service.

HINDS’ FEET ON HIGH PLACES is from my personal collection, over the years I have purchased and given away several copies. Yes! I recommend you read this book.

THE DUCK COMMANDER FAITH AND FAMILY BIBLE

If I was not going to give away this Bible after I reviewed the DUCK COMMANDER FAITH AND FAMILY BIBLE I would keep it. As a Believer, wife, mother, grandmother and business woman I cannot think of any opinion or commentary that would be greater than those of Phil and Al Robertson the Executive Editors of Thomas Nelson’s Signature Series New King James Bible. The Robertson family of Duck Dynasty fame have indeed prospered financially and are in good health this Bible is proof that their soul has also prospered. I could think of no other family that I could learn more from than the Robertson’s.
A Bible is a Bible is a Bible, is the Word of God. There are plenty of New King James Bibles to choose from and it is possible to purchase one without references, comments or other nuggets. We purchase Bibles with more content in order to increase see Scripture from a different perspective. THE DUCK COMMANDER FAITH AND FAMILY BIBLE compliments the New King James version of the Bible without adding to the truths that are found within God’s words. The nuggets and comments scattered throughout the books could be a book by itself.
As a fan, though not dedicated watcher, of the Duck Dynasty television series I was not disappointed. I have read the NKJV Bible on more than one occasion thus my focus in reviewing this particular Bible was what the editors Phil and Al Robertson would share. “52 days with Phil” and “52 days with Al” each contain weekly values to contemplate the topics being: faith, family, fellowship, forgiveness and freedom. I was fascinated by the “Life-changers Index” which contained anecdotal philosophies consistent with the Robertson’s family values that viewers see on television.
I like this Bible and definitely recommend it, it would make an excellent gift. I will be giving this one to my husband, a Duck Dynasty fan, whose birthday is 4 days after our anniversary this month. Even if he wasn’t a fan I would give it to him because I know that he will love it. xxx Marsha Randolph

EXPLORING CHRISTIAN THEOLOGY

Now more than ever it is very important for Christians to study the Bible not just read it. EXPLORING CHRISTIAN THEOLOGY Volume One, General Editors Nathan D. Holsteen & Michael J. Svigel is a great tool to help individuals understand the context of Scripture.
In general EXPLORING CHRISTIAN THEOLOGY is a Bible Study help that guides the individual through basic principles of faith regardless of his or her denomination. This book will: help the individual put events in the Bible in context, understand various foundational truths and reveal what was not seen by the reader before as he studies.
Graphics are used to illustrate various points and there are text boxes with suggested verses to remember throughout the book. There are charts and extensive reference notes throughout the book. What I appreciated was the sections entitled “Shelf Space” which contained an abundance of recommended reading.
EXPLORING CHRISTIAN THEOLOGY allows the reader to examine personal beliefs without the assistance of a dictionary. You will, however, need your Bible.
Each section is a study by itself though some may try to read the entire book I would suggest the reader pace himself. It is possible to use this book as part of a Bible Study group.
EXPLORING CHRISTIAN THEOLOGY is not for everyone. I have to admit that the writing style took me some getting use to. Quite frankly, I did not particularly care for some of the analogies used to segue to a particular concept.
The book is not necessarily an “easy” read but it is not difficult either. Based on its’ content I can recommend it.  Marsha L Randolph

NKJV STUDY BIBLE Full Color Edition

First things first I am reviewing the NKJV STUDY BIBLE - Full Color Edition. There are so many Bibles out there and so many New King James and NKJ Bibles available that you might become overwhelmed by the options.

The next point I must make is that I do like this Bible and will be using it as my primary study Bible.
I have read the King James and the New King James Bible on numerous occasions as well as other translations therefore I decided to focus attention on evaluating the “study” aspects of this Bible.
My chief complaint: As modern as the NKJV STUDY BIBLE - Full Color Edition’s cover was and as impressive as the 2,360 pages are (compared to my old NKJV Bible with 1,763) I want bigger letters. I would like to find a Bible that has a font that my eyes can appreciate; the good news is the type of font used does help.
I don’t know if I can agree 100% with some of the commentaries / clarifications of verses written however that is not to say that I am right. Despite the credentials of the contributors occasionally one denomination may not agree fully with how a particular verse is explained. Which is why it is always best for a person to read the Bible at least twice prior to reading any type of commentary allowing the Holy Spirit to reveal Truths.
Despite those the font size and the commentaries that I am not sure of this is a great Bible (you really cannot go wrong with a New King James Bible). The cultural notes, the cross-references, charts, time-lines and so forth all make the NKJV STUDY BIBLE a worth while purchase. I recommend this Bible.  Marsha L Randolph

WISDOM OF THE SADHU

I chose to review WISDOM OF THE SADHU Teachings of Sundar Singh, compiled and edited by Kim Comer because the synposis made me think of Watchman Nee. Upon receiving the book and reading the first few pages my impression was: it reads like The Greatest Salesman of the World by Og Mandingo.
Sundar Singh was destined to be a sadhu; a sadhu (pronounced sa- doo’)is a term for holy man associated with the Hinduism.  Like many Christians he had an intense desire within himself that was not satisfied by the rituals of prayer to a god who had no answers. The path from praying to Budha to serving God is the basis of this compilation of: teachings, parables that allude to Mr. Singh’s conversion and biographical stories.
I hesitate to compare this book to Pilgrim’s Progress, particularly since I found this book an easier read and full of greater truths, yet I was reminded of the book as I read. As the fictional character Christian journeyed to get rid of his burden so did the very real Sundar Singh journey to find peace and then purpose.
I had never heard of Sundar Singh until I was asked to review WISDOM OF THE SADHU now I am curious to learn more. Like many of the great men and women who have contributed so much to Christianity Sundar Singh has become someone very few people have heard of today.
I am glad I agreed to review this book and  defiantly recommend you purchase a copy for yourself. I would caution, not every believer can handle the true wisdom within the 196 pages.   xxx Marsha L Randolph

NIV ONCE A-DAY BIBLE [for leaders]

If you must choose between purchasing me either leather bound book of Bible promises (of which I have) and a paper back copy of the NIV ONCE A-DAY BIBLE {for leaders] the Bible wold be the better choice.
This New International Version of the Bible assigns a set number of Bible verses to each day which will facilitate the reader completing all 66 books of the Bible in 365 days. Traditionally people commit to reading the Bible in one year beginning January 1st, because the publisher, Zondervan, did not assign specific dates to the daily reading but numbered the day instead the reader can start as soon as he or she purchases the book. With other Bible reading plans It is important to read March 5ths reading on March 5th otherwise you will become overwelmed if you get behind. With THE NIV ONCE A-DAY BIBLE (for leaders) if you read 220 days in a row and then skip a day or two there is no stress just read day 221 and continue- no dates to catch up on.
The NIV ONCE A-DAY BIBLE {for leaders} Blends Old and New Testament books of the Bible along with a Proverb or Psalms. At the end of each day the section entitled “Reflections allows a leader to meditate on what was just read and consider how the words can be applied to his or her life. These motivating thoughts are from such great leaders as: Max Lucado, Ken Blanchard, Joyce Meyer, David Platt, Charles R Swindoll and Rick Warren.
This is a great Bible, I have a couple of Bibles that focus on leadership but I actually like this one better. The reading plan is practical. The words of reflection are motivational.

This is an excellent Bible for anyone in any type of leadership position and I recommend it. This would make a great Christmas present.

Homesteading Ideas. A Tour of Becky's Homestead.

This is really beyond the bookstore!

NIV ONCE A DAY STUDY BIBLE

If you are not familiar with the New International Version Bible (NIV) you are in for a treat, written in today’s English it is much easier to understand than the King James Bible. (Note there are those who do not fully appreciate this particular translation.) Zondervan’s Walk Thru the Bible series presents: NIV ONCE A DAY BIBLE (chronological edition) which creates a plan for anyone to read all 66 books in 365 days. Each daily reading is presented in order of occurrence.
I thought maybe, just maybe, this Bible would approach things differently BUT there is just no getting around the book of Numbers or Deuteronomy which for me are two of the most boring books of the Bible. The good news is once you have read it you can move on. I like how Psalm 119, one of my favorites, is divided to be completed in two days (day 150 and 152) and is mixed in with 1 Kings, 2 Chronicles and Song of Songs (aka Song of Solomon)and a few other Psalms.
I am torn as to who this book would be good for; I personally love it because it is a chronological edition. I have read the Bible from Genesis to Revelations so many times I can see how reading this Bible would break up the monotony of reading page by page, book by bookb. Conceivably it would also give the reader a better understanding of events, particularly in the Old Testament.

Unlike study Bibles the goal of the NIV ONCE A DAY BIBLE is to read all 66 books in one year. If you are one of those individuals who do this annually then definitely purchase a copy of the NIV ONCE A DAY BIBLE. If it is your intention to actually do a study on a particular book this will not work even with the points of “reflection” scattered throughout.
Though I recommend you purchase this book it is with the understanding that it may not be for everyone. Unless you know for sure that someone wants this Bible, I would not suggest you buy it as a Christmas present. This is one of those Bibles that each person has to decide for themselves if he wants.  Marsa

THIRTY-THREE DAYS OF PRAISE by Karrie Marchbanks

THIRTY-THREE DAYS OF PRAISE Seeing the Good in Cancer by Karrie Marchbanks presents very valuable information for every woman no matter what she is going through. The book, a discussion of the authors journey through breast cancer from a Christian perspective would also benefit both men and women going through some type of difficulty.
This is not a technical book on the pros and cons of various cancer treatments nor is it a book with numerous scripture references. THIRTY-THREE DAYS OF PRAISE describes Ms. Marchbanks personal emotions as she applied the medical advice and faith principals to her diagnosis of breast cancer.
Many Christians die trusting God to heal them; yes there are those who are healed without the input of the health care profession. I appreciated how the author followed the directions of health care professionals while trusting God for her healing.
There was a specific time when the author began 33 days of praise yet she had been praying and praising Father God for more than 33 days. Her faith laid the foundation for not only her healing but her attitude during the process. By the time I finished the book I was reminded how important praise and worship is before during and after a difficult time.
This book is not for those who want to know the various types of chemotherapy nor is it intended as a reference book of healing Scriptures. Read THIRTY-THREE DAYS OF PRAISE to understand the ups and downs of going through a hard time and how one person of faith made it through the down times.
If I could I would buy everyone I know a copy of this book. If you are not going through a difficult time read this book so that when you do you will be full of praise. I highly recommend you purchase this book.

EXPERIENCING THE LOSS OF A FAMILY MEMBER by H Norman Wright

I chose to review EXPERIENCING THE LOSS OF A FAMILY MEMBER because I am the Bereavement Support Group Leader in my church, I am always interested in information that will help me do what I do better. I am a Bereavement Support Leader because I know what it is like to loose a loved one, for me it was my 27 year old son and my 70 year old mother within thirty days of each other. No one understands grief like the bereaved.
EXPERIENCING THE LOSS OF A FAMILY MEMBER Discover the Path to Hope and Healing by Norman Wright is a very relevant book for those who want to know when the pain will go away. No, there is no set date in which a person will be completely “pain free” however there is a way to put the loss of a loved one in perspective.
This book has something for everyone. There are chapters dedicated to the loss of: a spouse, a child, a parent, sibling, friend and, yes, the loss of a pet. There are two chapters dedicated to the loss of a parent, one which addresses a woman and her mother and another which discusses a man and his father; great information. Chapter four, a must read for anyone who has to talk to children regarding a loss, “Helping Children in Grief”.
I would say this book is appropriate even if you have not experienced death because you probably will some day. Chapter 11 “Helping Others” makes this book necessary for people who want to be there for a friend or family as they grieve. Every person who has ever experienced a loss can share with you at least five (I am being generous) dumb things a person has said thinking it was appropriate.
This book is filled with information that I have not shared only because this review has already surpassed my 200 word standard. I recommend you purchase this book if not for yourself then for someone you know who has experienced the loss of someone they love.

TAKE THE RISK by Ben Carson MD and Gregg Lewis

Dr. Ben Carson is a very articulate man who speaks gently using very powerful words. In this book TAKE THE RISK he helps us overcome I hesitancy to move forward. By sharing his stories of risk taking and the philosophy associated with going against the grain Dr. Carson presents a different perspective about risk before teaching the readers a few pointers on evaluating a risk.
Some risk are not worth it where as others are necessary. In “TAKE THE RISK Learning to Identify, Choose, and Live with Acceptable Risk” by Ben Carson MD and Gregg Lewis the readers is provided with a format that can aid in determining if an action is viable.
One of the advantages of reading a book authored by Dr. Carson is his credibility. His been there done that this is what I did presentation is validated by his success despite the circumstances surrounding his childhood.
TAKE THE RISK is very inspirational and well worth anyone reading. It is 236 pages, as with all of his books it reads well with each of the 17 chapters building upon each other.

I recommend the reader purchase their own copy of this book. Originally published in 2008 I am sure the reader will be able to find a copy in print.

LEADERSHIP LESSONS by Ralph K Hawkins and Richard Leslie

The one thing I know is most leaders have books on leadership. There are lots of books available thus I can always find a book one person may have that I do not. There are, however, a few books that many of my leader friends have in common I think “LEADERSHIP LESSONS” Ralph K Hawkins and Richard Leslie Parrott is going to be on everyone’s bookshelf.
LEADERSHIP LESSONS Avoiding the Pitfalls of King Saul  By Ralph K Hawkins and Richard Leslie Parrott is a personal or group study book on lessons we all need to evaluate particularly in todays time. We are all leaders in some shape or form and I believe everyone can get something out of this book.
If you do not consider yourself a leader then this book will help you determine who to follow. And because this book is a study on leadership from a biblcal perspective I believe it will help individuals choose the right leaders for various political office.
LEADERSHIP LESSONS is based on the mistakes of King Saul who was Israels first King because of his behavior God replaced him with David; many leaders do not believe they can be replaced. If you are in some type of leadership position in: church, business, home, or school you will benefit from reading this study. Because this book is a study with questions at the end of each chapter if you are a leader of leaders this book is a great teaching tool.

I recommend purchasing LEADERSHIP LESSONS.

GIFTED HANDS by Ben Carson M.D.

GIFTED HANDS by Ben Carson MD with Cecil Murphy is motivational, inspirational, informative and profound. It is motivational because he did not let growing up poor or the opinions of people influence him. It is inspirational because Dr. Carson from an early age was a man of faith and throughout the pages in the book he shares his dependence on God. It is Informative because he shares the importance of opening your mind to all points of view as well as quite a few details associated with a few of his memorable surgeries. As I read GIFTED hands I was impressed with how humble this very skilled man is which makes the biography profound.
I purchased this book over five years ago and just recently decided to read it. I do not believe in accidents or coincidents and am sure this was my time to read GIFTED HANDS. Reading the biography of Dr. Ben Carson has motivated me to continue to do what is right and to trust God in every area of my life.

I recomend this book particularly if you are looking for something motivational. This is not your ordinary biography.  Marsha L. Randolph

WASTED PRAYER by Greg Darley

“WASTED PRAYER - Knowing When God Wants You To Stop Praying And Start Doing” by Greg Darley is one of those books you should read and the pass on to a friend however, I am not giving my copy away. I have quite a few books on prayer and they have really instructed me on general principles such as knowing God’s promises this book, however, is about your relationship with God.
Prayer is a conversation with God in which you must eventually listen and respond. “WASTED PRAYER” looks at behaviors as it relates to these conversations. Why would a believer think his or her prayer is wasted? Most believers do not think they are yet many people do not see the manifestation of the request.
“WASTED PRAYER” looks at individual behaviors, or lack there of; purposes and knowledge in this 181 page book. The concepts presented are not complicated to understand which makes this book easy to read and the use of Scripture throughout the book bolster the words written.
After completing this book I believe the reader, should he or she accept its’ thesis, will have a more directed and effective prayer life supported by a change in behaviors.

If you have never bought a book on prayer I recommend you start with “WASTED PRAYER- Know When God Wants You to Stop Praying and Start Doing” by Greg Darley. I recommend this book.

OBSTACLES by Maria Federici Doyle

I was really excited about reading OBSTACLES BRING’ EM by Maria Federici (DOYLE) the synopsis regarding the authors near death experience caught my attention. As I began reading the 90 page book I noticed the easy to follow pattern of reconstruction not so much as to the authors recovery but her life in general.
It did not take long or me to tire of meeting the author’s family and friends and so by the time we got to her dog I was relieved the book was almost over. Now this does not mean I hated the book it. There are some redeeming qualities.
Within the pages of family recognition and antidotal stories the reader is presented with a glimps of what it means to recover from a traumatic accident. Since the author has no memory of what happened she is dependent on the recollection of others OBSTACLES BRING’EM shares a glimpse into the authors life as she continues to move past an event that caused not only physical but emotional trauma.

Though I recommend reading the book I would suggest obtaining a libray copy.

MONEY MYSTERIES FROM THE MASTER by Gary Keesee

“Don’t be like the people of this world, but let God change the way you think. Then you will know how to do everything that is good and pleasing to him.” Romans 12:2 Contemporary English Version

There is a whole lot of misinformation about money out there! Based on my conversations with people most of the information is wrong, in addition to educating individuals about finances I also recommend a television program called “Gary Keesee-Fixing The Money Thing” (Daystar Network) the information is presented on a level that is what we all need to hear.
Christians often mix teachings from the pulpit with misinformation they receive from the world in MONEY MYSTERIES FROM THE MASTERS - Time honored Financial Truths from Jesus Himself the author, Gary Keesee, teaches in an almost painstaking step by step process what the Bible really says about finances. Because much of what people know about finances has been presented in such away that many people don’t know what to believe it is important that the reader lets “God change the way you think” (Romans 12:2 CEV).
By combining real life stories with Bible verses and subsequent principles the reader is able to digest the information presented at his or her own pace. There is no rush to read MONEY MYSTERIES FROM THE MASTER as you read the testimonies and study the Biblical concepts you will be able to eliminate the false teachings and misunderstandings which well help achieve financial success.

As with his other book, Fixing the Money Thing, I recommend this book.

Although I receive many complimentary books in exchange for a review this book was not one of them.  I chose this book and purchased it with my own funds. As with all reviews the words written are my honest opinion. Marsha L Randolph

SIDELINED by Chuck Pagano w/ Bruce A. Tollner

This book is about football, it’s about cancer and it is about the importance of positive people when a person is going through adversity. SIDELINED Overcoming Odds through Unity, Passion, and Perseverance by Chuck Pagano with Bruce A. Tollner reveals what happened to Coach Pagano’s after he was diagnosed with Acute Promyeloctic Leukemia, APL for short.
You don’t have to be a football fan nor do you have to experience cancer in order to appreciate SIDELINED. Though the the reader learns of the difficulties Coach Pagano experienced as a cancer patient we also discover the importance family which goes beyond wife, children, parents etcetera. It is the story of how not only the immediate Pagano family was an encouraging factor in the author’s life but how other people including the Indianapolis Colt’s organization and the fans became a positive influence.
In the midst of reading about the difficulties Coach Pagano experienced and the love he was receiving he shared another valuable insight. “One time a nurse told me about an older woman whose condition was terminal, and I made it a point to talk with her for a bit.” (page 125) Even though you may be going through a difficult time it is important that you remember to not stop giving.
I think this is an excellent book and I recommend it to my readers.

ADVENTURE BIBLE FOR EARLY READERS, NIrV

After going through the technical aspects of NIrV ADVENTURE BIBLE I sat down with my 6 year old grandson to do a Bible Study. I chose the book of Proverbs.
Our first impression of the book; cool! It’s special edition 3-D cover quickly attracted my grandson who wanted the Bible instantly. I personally played with various angles intrigued by what I saw. Getting past the pleasure of the book cover design I read the information presented about what an NIrV was, this was important for me because I have read the NIV Bible but not the New International Readers Version. Of course there was the section on “How to use this Bible written in very simple, large font, terms; perhaps grown up Bibles should do the same. The overall opinion of my grandson, his sister, their mother and myself was this is indeed a good Bible.
I chose the book of Proverbs because I knew I could explain the verses easily to a six year old. As with every book in the NIrV Bible the overview contains what individuals studying the Bible need to know: who wrote it, when was it written and why was it written. It also points out verses that are relevant to children. I used the recommendation to read Proverbs 3:5-6 which happens to be one of my favorites.
The two verses generated an excellent discussion between myself, my grandson and his 10 year old sister. It was clear to me that they both understood the verse and could apply it to their own life, which is what we want when our children, grandchildren, read God’s word.
There are quite a few Bible nuggets presented in the NIrV ADVENTURE BIBLE. However, I suspect that one of the attractions for young people is the adventure theme woven throughout the book. There are pictures of: elephants, parrots, frogs, and monkeys that ask “Did You Know” tells us to “Live It!” and share various treasures. “Life in Bible Times” signs teach various historical information.
The NIrV ADVENTURE BIBLE is written on the level of an early reader age 6 -10 years old. Yet I will be sharing some of the information in it with my adult Bible Study group.
I definitely recommend this Bible be purchased.

SHARING CHRIST WITH THE DYING by Melody Rossi

I have mixed emotions about SHARING CHRIST WITH THE DYING perhaps because I had such high expectations based on my activities within the church and the various classes I have taken as a Bereavement Support Team Member. I was hopping to learn something I did not know unfortunately I did not.
SHARING CHRIST WITH THE DYING is a well written book about that journals the authors experience with death of loved ones. Anyone who has had to deal with hospice understands how well versed in the nuances of each member of the care team who works with the family as well as the patient. Melody Rossi presents an overview of almost every aspect of hospice care.
This is my problem with the book: I expected to read about sharing the gospel with someone who was dying I was not looking for a book on hospice care.
Her chapter on Spiritual Warfare seems incomplete almost amateurish. She presents 10 questions for the reader to ask him or herself the first two are as follows: What is God trying to accomplish right now? 2) Would Satan have any reason to interfere? Dear readers the answer is found in John 10:10 (paraphrased): Jesus declared that the enemy (Satan) came to kill steal and destroy but I (Jesus) came that you may have life and more abundantly. Whenever believers pray for someone Satan is going to oppose it thus there will be a battle.
It has been my personal experience, you share Christ with the dying the same way you do with the living - by first praying and secondly choosing your words so the individual receives them.
There are other things within the book that I could not fully appreciate however this would be a good book as a reference for anyone who would like to know what to expect when a loved one is placed on hospice care. I would suggest you check this book out of the library.

KING RULES by Alveda King

The forward to King Rules: Ten Truths for You, Your Family, and Our Nation to Prosper by Alveda King begins with a forward written by the Honorable J. C. Watts which establishes such a level of expectation for the reader that anything less than a great read would make the 189 page book not worth the paper it was printed on. Reading the forward, which set the tone of this hopefully great book, I was ready to sit down and read a story about the King family. This is not another book about Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
I was pleasantly surprised to discover that King Rules: Ten Truths for You, Your Family, and Our Nation to Prosper was not just another book about Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. It is a collection of faith based generational lessons that anyone can apply to his or her life.
The King family stories serve as a foundation for the ten rules, life principles, that Alveda King presents to the reader. As a a nation we know the sacrifice the late honorable Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King Jr made on behalf of this country and we are familiar with the contributions of other members of the King family. By incorporating the behaviors of these great American’s within the pages of the book the reader is able to understand the importance of each rule.
I was sharing with my daughter the contents of this book for two reasons: 1) I felt validated as a parent because my philosophies agreed with the words I found on this page and 20 I want her to read this book as she raises my grandchildren. Not only did I recommend this book to my daughter I also recommend you purchase a copy of this book.   Marsha L Randolph

HOW HIGH WILL YOU CLIMB by John C Maxwell

In order to grow within you have to read books with nuggets; bits of information that you can carry with you forever. In his latest book, How High Will You Climb?: Determine Your Success by Cultivating the Right Attitude by John C. Maxwell has once again provided motivating words of wisdom in which the reader can take with him wherever he chooses to go.
I am a John Maxwell fan and have purchased many of his books. Though the basis of all of his books are pretty much the same, developing the leader in you, the approach varies. In How High Will You Climb? The reader is encouraged to examine his or her attitude.
Part of Mr. Maxwell’s success has to do with his ability to incorporate biblical principals with the realities of life. You will not appreciate this book if you do not understand the need to incorporate God’s word in your daily activities. Bible passages are woven throughout the entire book.
How High Will You Climb? serves as a life coach thus it reads like a one on one motivational conversation. The antidotes told lead to life observations which lead to suggested life applications all of which should force the reader to determine what his or her goals are.
As with any self-help, personal motivational, or leadership book, upon reading this book the individual should have a better understanding of how to succeed. I like books that focus on personal responsibility which is why I can recommend How High Will You Climb? I believe even non-Christians will be able to glean life truths from this book.

KNOWING GOD by NAME by David Wilkerson

Sometimes you can have more than enough books on the same subject as is the case with the book I am now reviewing thus the question becomes: Is this book necessary? I chose to review Knowing God by Name: Names of God That Bring Hope and Healing out of curiosity.
What makes Knowing God by Name unique is the authors’ approached. This is not a book that simply gives you various Greek and Hebrew names of God. Knowing God by Name reveals who “I AM WHO I AM” (Exodus 3:14)is to the person of man.
El Elyon, El Shaddaai, Jehovah Jireh (chapter 1); Jehovah Rophi, Jehovah Makkeh (chapter 2); Jehovah Nicssi (chapter 3); Jehovah Tsebbaioth (chapter 4); Jehovah Shalom (chapter 5); Jehovah Tsidkenu (chapter 6); Jehovah Shammah (chapter 7) Jehovah Rohi (chapter 8); Immanuel (chapter); as well as Forgiveness and Intercessor are the “I AM” revealed in the book. Each of these Names many of us are already familiar with.
Knowing God by Name is not so much about the Names of God as it is how His name manifest in the life of the believer. Because of his easy to understand writing style I recommend this book to anyone who seeks better understanding as to who God is and how he or she can use His character to bring hope and healing.
Pastor Wilkerson went home to be with the Lord April 27, 2011 thus this book is a reprint.

fixing the money thing by Gary Keesee

I happened to come across the program FIXING THE MONEY THING on the Daystar network a few months ago I was so intrigued by the message of Gary and Drenda Keesee. After a few weeks of  watching the program I ordered the book “Fixing the Money Thing: A practical Guide to Your Financial Success .”
This is the best book on finances that I have ever read. I am financial consultant with clients that range from low income to financially independent Fixing the Money Thing will benefit everyone. Unlike other books including Dave Ramsey (yes his book is on my shelf as well) Gary Keesee discuses our money behaviors in a non-accusing manner then teaches the reader a better way of doing things. Unlike other books I have read on the topic “Fixing the Money Thing ” uses Biblical principles to teach individuals how to manage money, in particular how to get out of debt.  According to Gary and Drenda (his wife) it is possible to become debt free within 7 years.
The concepts taught in Fixing the Money Thing thing the book and the television program are the concepts I use with my clients only he has more experience than I do. Pastor Gary Keesee is able  to present “a practical guide to your financial success” using numerous real life examples. More important he has been there and done that.
The Keesee’s were able to get out of debt in which they owed approximately $200,000 in seven years. Their television program serves as a platform for men and women of God to share their faith based keys to success and includes people who are struggling to get out of debt and multi-millionaires.
Many people enjoy another individual who has both books and a television program. I have watched his show on the Business News Network and I have evaluated his University program which is offered at my church. Though I cannot deny the number of successes he has had I can tell you it is not for me.
After watching the program for a few weeks and desperately wanting to become debt free I wrote Gary Keesee via email and he replied (about 3 days later). For years I felt that I could not become debt free without the agreement of my husband, which I did not have. I wrote Pastor Keesee and explained my situation and wondered if there was an “alternative program”. His encouraging response gave me the boost of faith that I needed.
In Fixing the Money Thing Gary Keesee teaches how little things can make a difference. This book is well worth your purchasing, definitely doable and I recommend it to all of my clients, friends and family.
Unlike other reviews I purchased this book and am reviewing it independent of any publishing company or writer.
Note to the reader: Debt has become an American norm, this should not so. I am on a personal mission to own my home in less than 15 years, despite what my husband says and to be otherwise debt free in less than 7. My goal is to bring as many people as I can along with me.  For more information about what I do and how I do it please email me at nowayztired@gmail.com or visit my financial web site: Marsha Lynnette Randolph You can become debt free and financially independent.
