The  NEW INTERNATIONAL THE MAXWELL LEADERSHIP BIBLE - lesson in Leadership from the Word of God by John C. Maxwell is more of the same except it is the NIV bible translation.  I say that as a personal opinion and one that has been consistently disappointed in John C. Maxwell's publications as of  late.

If you are new to John C. Maxwell you are in for a treat, the fact that he shares his wisdom in leadership and combines it with his understanding of God's word is an absolute good thing. If you have been following John C.  Maxwell for any length of time and you already have any of his previous Bibles you will be disappointed.

It was out of curiosity more than a need for another Bible that I agreed to review this book, when a respected leader shares his comments within the pages of Scripture it is usually a good investment, particularly since the Word does not change. I seek study Bibles because of the historical information presented, the contextual interpretation of the contributors, and the life application the contributors present.  John C. Maxwell teaches people how to be great leaders thus he emphasises leadership skills using Scripture to support his ideology, unfortunately there was nothing new in this edition.

I chose to compare this 3rd Edition NIV Bible with the the 3rd Edition NKJV that was released last year. Aside from Bible verses and chapters being on different pages and the notes and comments being on different pages there was nothing new shared. Perhaps my disappointment was heightened by the release of a book on leadership that he published, and I reviewed, that contained very little new information.

Bible's are an investment. If a person just wants to read the Scripture, both the NKJV and the KJV are available without any commentary or study notes and it is a lot cheaper. It is not that I am suggesting to anyone not to obtain this particular Bible but I am sending out cautions. This is one you might want to test drive before you buy. Go to the book store and skim through the pages.

Because I was disappointed in the lace of new information my eyes wandered through looking for some good. I had assumed there were but I could not find any maps! This Bible does not have maps.

Perhaps it is me but ever since I looked at the book I was bothered by the name MAXWELL being larger that the name BIBLE. Am I being nit-picky? If you are browsing in a book store you will see the name Maxwell  and think 'John C Maxwell' among the many Bibles to choose from- assuming it was done for marketing purposes.

There will always be John Maxwell fans and I suspect there will be a 4th edition Bibles  next year. It is good to tie in your leadership and business savvy with the Word of God so don't let me discourage you.  This is just one reviewers opinion.   written by Marsha L F Randolph

DEVELOPING THE LEADER WITHIN YOU 2.0 by John C Maxwell

If you have never read a John C Maxwell book and you are interested in having your own business and / or improving upon your leadership skills then I recommend you read DEVELOPING THE LEADER WITHIN YOU 2.0. If you own more than 2 John C Maxwell books I would suggest you skip this book.

Though may be a few “nuggets” found within the pages of this book however as a fan of John C. Maxwell it grieves me to say DEVELOPING THE LEADER WITHIN YOU 2.O is more of the same. It seems that Mr. Maxwell is re-releasing his books with a slite twist and it is now to redundant for me to give him a pass. Perhaps he has said all that he has to say.

In the not so fine print on the cover it reads: “Over 2 Million Copies Sold (Original Edition)”.

If you have never read a Maxwell good then grab a copy. There are great tips on leadership including developing an understanding when the problem is not the other person but you- see chapter 5: Problem Solving. If you are determined to read this book even though you have read the others you will find some diffences and two chapters that have been omitted.

Book stores require I indicate how I like this book by assigning between 1 to 5 stars. On average I have given 5 stars to a John C Maxwell book. I cannot do it this time because if I had not received a complimentary copy I would not have purchased this book.   - - - written by Marsha L F Randolph

THE LEADERSHIP HANDBOOK by John Maxwell

Chapter one Lesson one: “If It’s Lonely at the Top, You’re Not Doing Something Right” and so goes John Maxwell’s book “THE LEADERSHIP HANDBOOK- 26 CRITICAL LESSONS EVERY LEADER NEEDS”. John Maxwell is a well respected motivator in business circles as well as within the Christian community, his books are helpful to both leaders and leader wannabes. The title of chapter one caught my eye right away and I skipped the introduction to discover what he meant; most of us were taught ‘it is lonely at the top.” It does not have to be lonely at the top - lesson learned.
This book is, as its’ title suggest,  a text book on leadership. THE LEADERSHIP HANDBOOK has 26 excellent lessons every person (even if you do not think of yourself as a leader) should study. Each chapter includes application exercises and a “mentoring moment.”
“Mentoring Moment” is similar to “Minute with Maxwell,” a one minute coaching video sent free to subscribers via email. The paragraph found at the end of each chapter encourages the reader to assume responsibility for the information presented and to apply it to their lives.
Most of the books on leadership that I have personally purchased (this one is a review copy) are by John Maxwell. His books make sense, the information is presented in such a manner that the reader will not go into information overload or walk away feeling incompetent. I do have a few leadership books by other authors but Mr. Maxwell’s conversational style of writing fits my personality better.
THE LEADERSHIP HANDBOOK contains 26 lessons which makes it a great tool for teaching leadership. The principles taught in the book are appropriate for ministry and business as well as personal growth and development. I recommend this book.

HOW HIGH WILL YOU CLIMB by John C Maxwell

In order to grow within you have to read books with nuggets; bits of information that you can carry with you forever. In his latest book, How High Will You Climb?: Determine Your Success by Cultivating the Right Attitude by John C. Maxwell has once again provided motivating words of wisdom in which the reader can take with him wherever he chooses to go.

I am a John Maxwell fan and have purchased many of his books. Though the basis of all of his books are pretty much the same, developing the leader in you, the approach varies. In How High Will You Climb? The reader is encouraged to examine his or her attitude.

Part of Mr. Maxwell’s success has to do with his ability to incorporate biblical principals with the realities of life. You will not appreciate this book if you do not understand the need to incorporate God’s word in your daily activities. Bible passages are woven throughout the entire book.

How High Will You Climb? serves as a life coach thus it reads like a one on one motivational conversation. The antidotes told lead to life observations which lead to suggested life applications all of which should force the reader to determine what his or her goals are.

As with any self-help, personal motivational, or leadership book, upon reading this book the individual should have a better understanding of how to succeed. I like books that focus on personal responsibility which is why I can recommend How High Will You Climb? I believe even non-Christians will be able to glean life truths from this book.
