THE PLEASURE OF HIS COMPANY: A Journey To Intimate Friendship With God by Dutch Sheets

RELEASE DATE JANUARY 28, 2014

Rarely does the title of a book surmise the essence of a book as the title: Pleasure of His Company, The: A Journey to Intimate Friendship With God” by Dutch Sheets. I am a Dutch Sheets fan so I would have been surprised if this book was not a good one.
Pleasure of His Company, The: A Journey to Intimate Friendship With God reads like a devotional should read in that it is introspective. His words guide the reader into a more personal vision of who Jesus is. The traditional devotional provides a bible verse and a commentary in which the reader is free to accept or reject this book is not a devotional but a guide to an intimate friendship with God.
Upon completion of this book the reader will, at least he or she should, have a better understanding of what it means to have a personal relationship with God. The 265 pages should not be read in one day but savored. Each prayer found at the end of each of the 30 chapters should be read first then spoken but only if you mean it.
The first book I ever read by Dutch Sheets was The Beginner's Guide to Intercessory Prayer, one that I have recommended to numerous people. I also recommend Pleasure of His Company, The: A Journey to Intimate Friendship With God. As a believer and particularly if you are an intercessor you should have a copy of this book.

I received a complimentary copy of this book with the understanding that my review would be fair and honest.

NIV RAGAMUFFIN BIBLE

Most Bible fanatics have notes throughout their favorite Bible and  love sharing these thoughts with others should the opportunity arise. Zondervan  has released a new New International Version  Bible called “NIV Ragamuffin Bible: Meditations for the Bedraggled, Beat-Up, and Brokenhearted ”. Throughout  the NIV Ragamuffin Bible: Meditations for the Bedraggled, Beat-Up, and Brokenhearted Brennan Manning shares some of his Bible notes.
Richard Francis Xavier Manning a.k.a. Brennan Manning was born April 27, 1934 and died just shy of his 79th birthday April 12, 2013.  As a Marine he served in the Korean war before graduating from Satin Francis University. In 1963 he was ordained a Franciscan priest.  During his life journey  this man who loved God became an alcoholic and overcame its’ stronghold.
THE NIV Ragamuffin Bible: Meditations for the Bedraggled, Beat-Up, and Brokenhearted contains reflections by Brennan Manning. Unlike other Bibles the thoughts and ideas do not distract from the readers ability to study independent of someone else’s commentary.
A suggested reflection begins:
Psalm 84:3 “Home is that sacred space-external or internal where we don’t have to be afraid; where we are confident of hospitality and love…..”
That is just the first sentence of four, a simple thought that can lead to an hour meditation.  Yes, there are comments from Brennan Manning that are greater in depth none of which I found controversial.
I recommend this book to my readers, particularly if you know of someone going through an addiction.  It is well worth purchasing and an excellent tribute to a man of God

I received a complimentary copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

My Questions From The Book of Luke by M L Floyd

It is a tough habit to break if you are accustomed to having someone tell you how to think. Most Bible studies assign a passage to read, a question to be answered and then the correct answer.  Not so with “MYQUESTIONS FROM THE BOOK OF LUKE” by M L Floyd
MY QUESTIONSFROM THE BOOK OF LUKE is exactly what the titles suggest a series of questions that were written  to challenge the readers traditional way of reading the Bible.
For example: In Luke chapter 15 there is the story often entitled “The Prodigal Son”  M L Floyd directs the attention from the son to the father  when she ask:
"Do you believe God will meet you where you are?"
This question is followed by the verse Luke: 15:20 using the Expanded Bible.  Which includes a commentary within its’ text “[C-an undignified act for a family patriarch; evidence of his unrestrained love]”
Question, Bible Verse(s) and then a statement to Contemplate is the format for  this short eBook. In the above example the statement to contemplate is as follows:
"See above commentary: “an undignified act for a family patriarch; evidence of his unrestrained love”"
There is no right or wrong answer, the book is just a guide created to help  the reader discover Biblical truths. In not limiting herself to one particular Bible the reader engages in a personal Bible Study which will develop his or her own understanding.

This book is available via Smashwords in eBook format.

THE 30 DAY PRAISE CHALLENGE by Becky Harling

If you do something long enough it goes past being a habit and becomes a lifestyle. THE 30 DAY PRAISE CHALLENGE by Becky Harling will help you develop a life of praise and worship.
As a firm believer of spending more time giving God glory than a list of complaints I agree with The 30-Day Praise Challenge 100%.  One of the reasons why I appreciated this book is because it was written by someone who has been there and done that.
This book is an excellent response to those who are going through difficult times and believe that prayer and fasting is the solution. Read this book and spend your time praising not petitioning.
I am a firm believer in the power of praise reading The 30-Day Praise Challenge will help guide a believer in Jesus live a more satisfying life and develop a much better relationship with Father God.
I recommend you purchase this book and I would suggest you purchase a copy for anyone you know who is going through a difficult time.

WOUNDED BY GOD'S PEOPLE by Anne Graham Lutz

Sometimes the truth hurts and the truth is that Christians often hurt Christians. “Wounded by God's People: Discovering How God's Love Heals Our Hearts ” written by Anne Graham Lotz is an excellent lesson in how those of us who have been the victim of Christian opinion can move on while defining how Christians hurt other Christians.
One of my many ‘soap box’ issues is the judgmental nature of many Christians who believe they are the experts as to how a Christian should behave but think they should use Social Media to spread their opinions to as many people as possible. It does not occur to these individuals that their words cause more harm than good. In "Wounded by God's People: Discovering How God's Love Heals Our Hearts ” the author uses biblical examples of how people inadvertently hurt others.
Using the story of Hagar as a focal point Mrs. Lotz is able to share her own memories of hurts caused by religious individuals. Daughter of  Reverend Billy Graham it is surprising to think that she and her husband were voted out of a church in which they had been associated with for more than 15 years. Like Hagar we can be placed in circumstances beyond our control subjected to the pain of rejection inflicted by religious leaders.
Most people do not believe they are hurting others which is why this book is important for all believers. Like the members of the church in which Anne Graham Lotz and her husband attended, they believed they were doing the right thing.
I recommend “Wounded by God's People: Discovering How God's Love Heals Our Hearts ” it is a book worth purchasing and sharing.

UNSEEN by Jack Graham

This is the book I have been looking for.  I have a number of books on spiritual warfare, angels, hell and even heaven all though informative seemed to be lacking. Unseen: Angels, Satan, Heaven, Hell, and Winning the Battle for Eternity BY Jack Graham is a practical, realistic, understandable book regarding spiritual forces.
Unseen: Angels, Satan, Heaven, Hell, and Winning the Battle for Eternity is not just a book on spiritual forces it is a facilitator for you the reader to develop a better understanding of what you know about God and Satan.  If you are a Conservative traditional Christian and do not consider such subjects as the Holy Spirit, angels and demons are relevant to your faith then I challenge you to read this book. If you are a skeptic and doubt the realities of Satan, demons and other unseen forces this book by Dr. Jack Graham will enlighten you. If you are an intercessor then reading Unseen: Angels, Satan, Heaven, Hell, and Winning the Battle for Eternity will help you take your prayers to another level. Assisted by the discussion questions at the end of each chapter you, the reader, will know that heaven and hell are very real therefore angels and Satan are too.
The book is an easy read, not all data and Scripture. Personal and practical stories are woven within its’ pages to make it possible for the reader to digest the information.  If you are familiar with Dr. Graham via his television program “Power Point” then you know the information he shares is practical, biblical and applicable to our daily lives.
I recommend this book. It is ideal for Small Group Bible Study (there is a free online curriculum available) as well as personal growth and development. I strongly suggest you purchase a COPY.
