BIBLE REVIEW:NKJV, PERSONAL SIZE LARGE PRINT, END OF VERSE REFERENCE BIBLE

I am happy to receive and review Thomas Nelson’s New King James Bible thanks to my favorite go to website: Biblegateway.

The box that contained the Bible was elegant, serving as an introduction that created an expectation  of excellence.  If packaging means anything to you then the opening the box to see the wrapping that covered the Bible, with a “Premier Collection” authentication seal,  takes this New King James Bible to more than just an unboxing but a revealing. Finally I saw the beautiful NKJV Personal Size Large Print Reference Bible, I was not disappointed.

The first descriptive word that comes to mind is “clean” followed by “elegant. My Bible, the one I received, is a brown goatskin leather, no writing is found on the cover. The spine reads: HOLY BIBLE, and at the base of the spine New King James Version, Thomas Nelson. What else is needed?

Opening up the book I appreciated the words which is written on premium European Bible paper with art-gilded gold edges. The font is very legible, I wear progressive glasses which makes this feature very important to me. I also  noted the font in the reference section and the maps are also legible to me.  Finally, there are three ribbons tucked inside to be used as needed in three unique colors: brown, red and blue. It is a Bible that is meant to be used as well as seen.

The Thomas Nelson NKJV, Personal Size Large Print, End-of-Verse Reference Bible, Premium Goatskin Leather  is a reference Bible. Unfortunately the references are not as extensive as I would like. I looked up words that I believe are relevant to what might people might be interested in today: wine, love, wife, marriage, married, sodomites, faith and government; faith had the most references and government had none.

When I review Bibles I do not give such detailed description as I wrote in the first few paragraphs. At the time of this writing many people are think of gifts to give to various people of faith, this is not a Bible I would want to give to someone who is going to put it on a shelf and forget about it. This is a Bible to be gifted to someone who is going to use it, perhaps for his or her personal Bible study, but not take it to church with him or her. This is a Bible you gift to someone who appreciates the word of God and quality.

Never would I have imagined as a #BibleGatewayPartner that I would receive such a gorgeous book for review. Many of the Bibles I have reviewed I have given away, though I have kept more. Because of it’s elegance I don’t want to give this one away, however by the time this review is posted the new owner will have it in her possession. The new owner is young in her faith but does appreciate God’s word, she does read her Bible, meaning she already owns one or two. The new owner is ready to go deeper in the word, this Bible is inspirational and motivational.  I am gifting this Bible to her because she will use it, she will be able to take advantage of the reference section, she will appreciate the craftsmanship, and she will not be afraid to write notes in it.

YES, I recommend this Bible. I might just by me one just because.

NIV STUDY BIBLE FULLY REVISED EDITION

It is the NIV STUDY BIBLE FULLY REVISED EDITION  published in 2020 by Zondervan. So, what does that mean? It means you get more than the New International Version of the Bible and so it is important to look beyond the translation itself.

My first impression: WOW! Now that’s a Bible! It is about as thick as the one my grandmother had on her coffee table! Not as big. Then I opened it up.

Have you ever had one of those instances in which you opened the Bible and went straight to the verse you needed to see? I haven’t but when I opened the Bible I went straight to the articles I needed to read: Divorce. After reading the two articles, found in the book of Malachi, I searched to see what other current lifestyle articles there were. I discovered an article on Baptism, in the book of Matthew. And then I found one in the book of Hebrews entitled: CAN CHRISTIANS LOSE THEIR SALVATION?”

I have reviews many Bibles, I owned many before I started reviewing them. The NIV STUDY BIBLE FULLY REVISED Bible is worth owning because of the wealth of life modern day life applying articles found in it.

Also of note in this particular Bible is information that will help the student of Scripture put things in context. The information provided includes: maps, images notes, commentaries, cross references, historical perspectives, a concordance, and much more.

It is not that I need another Bible but I think I am going to keep this one because of ALL THE INFORMATION found within the pages of this awesome book.

HALLEY'S STUDY BIBLE- NEW INTERNATIONAL VERSION

The New International Version of the bible is not my first Bible of choice, though I do have a few copies. But, I love the NEW INTERNATIONAL VERSION HALLEY’S STUDY BIBLE.

As a #BibleGatewayPartner, I received a complimentary copy of the New International HALLEY’S STUDY BIBLE in exchange for an honest review but when I started going through the Bible I forgot to write my review! I also forgot that I was not a fan of the NIV Bible translation. (SMH)

I have owned a Halley’s Bible Dictionary for years. Unfortunately someone has borrowed it indefinitely, this Bible makes up for the loss.

I love the charts, the pictures, and the words of Yeshua marked in red.  I also appreciate the ribbon that helps me mark a page, though I wish there were at least two. The font is perfect, easy on the eyes, something exclusive to Zondervan. But what I really love is the comments, notes- whatever you want to call them.

HALLEY’S STUDY BIBLE, N.I.V.,  is what a study Bible should be: a combination of factual data and commentary brought together to help the reader learn.

When HALLEY’S STUDY BIBLE arrived in the mail I was meditating on 1 JOHN 5:14-15

1 John 5:14-15 New International Version (NIV)

This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us. 15 And if we know that he hears us—whatever we ask—we know that we have what we asked of him.

The comment for these particular verses read as follows:

5:14-15 according to his will. The key to knowing that God hears is to pray this way.

This is what I believe and I was glad to see that my understanding was correct.

After that I began using the HALLEY’S STUDY BIBLE for more studies, which is why I forgot to post a review.

There are informational nuggets throughout this Bible which makes it well worth owning. For example: In relation to Psalm 84 there is a nugget entitled: God’s House”  I loved the picture of the “Interior of houses with painted walls in Ephesus.” (page 1614 2 John of my Bible) In the book of Revelation you will find a discussion on THE FIRST BEAST- Revelation 13:1-10.

If you are looking for a study Bible for a gift or for yourself this is a good one.

From time to time I give away the Bibles I obtain for review but this one is a keeper!

If you like this post and think others should know about this Bible please share. Thank you

LIFE APPLICATION STUDY BIBLE - 3rd edition published by Zondervan

The first Bible I received was a Life Application Bible, it helped me read and understand what I was reading and prepared me for reading the King James Bible.  Thirty-five years later I still have that Bile, though it is held together with packaging tape. That Life Application Bible is the "Living Bible Translation" I was excited to have the opportunity to review the NEW INTERNATIONAL VERSION - LIFE APPLICATION STUDY BIBLE.
I have had this Bible for a few weeks now and have been using it for my personal Bible study, I forgot that I had a job to do- tell people what I think.
I am a strong supporter of people doing more than just reading a Bible in one year, we need to study with the intent of understanding what is written and applying the word to our lives. The New International LIFE APPLICATION STUDY BIBLE helps the ready do just that- read with understanding and apply it to one's life.  The commentary for Job 14:22: "They feel but the pain of their own bodies and morn only for themselves",  is a great example of biblical application.
"Job's profound speech in this chapter illustrates a great truth; knowing the right set of doctrines is not enough. To know what to believe is not all that is required to please God.  Truth untested by life's experiences may become static and stagnant....."

What else is in THE NIV LIFE APPLICATION STUDY BIBLE?

  • There are concept segments that also enhance Bible reading. For example:  A list of people who had to wait on the Lord is found on page 804 of my hard back copy entitled - "Bible Waiters".
  • Personality Profiles are helpful in understanding certain behaviors. It adds a humanness to the reading when you are aware of not only strengths but the weaknesses of an individual.
  • In addition to there are: book introductions,  an outline of each book, cross references for significant verses, charts, diagrams and timelines.  These are important tools for studying.

Although, I often read the King James Bible, particularly when I am checking for the original terms- Greek or Hebrew- I have no problem with reading the New International version of the Bible.  THE NEW INTERNATIONAL VERSION LIFE APPLICATION STUDY BIBLE is an excellent resource for those who want to grow in biblical knowledge and understanding.

I have the brown soft leather copy. It is a beautiful looking Bible with readable prin, it has one ribbon for marking pages. The words of Yeshua are in red. The pages are that vintage thin sheeting with gold edges which gives it a wonderful elegance, great for gift giving  I will not be giving this one away!

THE MAXWELL LEADERSHIP BIBLE Published by Thomas Neslon

The  NEW INTERNATIONAL THE MAXWELL LEADERSHIP BIBLE - lesson in Leadership from the Word of God by John C. Maxwell is more of the same except it is the NIV bible translation.  I say that as a personal opinion and one that has been consistently disappointed in John C. Maxwell's publications as of  late.

If you are new to John C. Maxwell you are in for a treat, the fact that he shares his wisdom in leadership and combines it with his understanding of God's word is an absolute good thing. If you have been following John C.  Maxwell for any length of time and you already have any of his previous Bibles you will be disappointed.

It was out of curiosity more than a need for another Bible that I agreed to review this book, when a respected leader shares his comments within the pages of Scripture it is usually a good investment, particularly since the Word does not change. I seek study Bibles because of the historical information presented, the contextual interpretation of the contributors, and the life application the contributors present.  John C. Maxwell teaches people how to be great leaders thus he emphasises leadership skills using Scripture to support his ideology, unfortunately there was nothing new in this edition.

I chose to compare this 3rd Edition NIV Bible with the the 3rd Edition NKJV that was released last year. Aside from Bible verses and chapters being on different pages and the notes and comments being on different pages there was nothing new shared. Perhaps my disappointment was heightened by the release of a book on leadership that he published, and I reviewed, that contained very little new information.

Bible's are an investment. If a person just wants to read the Scripture, both the NKJV and the KJV are available without any commentary or study notes and it is a lot cheaper. It is not that I am suggesting to anyone not to obtain this particular Bible but I am sending out cautions. This is one you might want to test drive before you buy. Go to the book store and skim through the pages.

Because I was disappointed in the lace of new information my eyes wandered through looking for some good. I had assumed there were but I could not find any maps! This Bible does not have maps.
A
Perhaps it is me but ever since I looked at the book I was bothered by the name MAXWELL being larger that the name BIBLE. Am I being nit-picky? If you are browsing in a book store you will see the name Maxwell  and think 'John C Maxwell' among the many Bibles to choose from- assuming it was done for marketing purposes.

There will always be John Maxwell fans and I suspect there will be a 4th edition Bibles  next year. It is good to tie in your leadership and business savvy with the Word of God so don't let me discourage you.  This is just one reviewers opinion.   written by Marsha L F Randolph

THE WIERSBE STUDY BIBLE Published by Thomas Nelson

I have been overwhelmed since I first received THE WIERSBE STUDY BIBLE- Be Transformed by the Power of God’s Word was published by Thomas Nelson.  Size wise, this is not a book you will be carrying around. When I randomly opened the Bible I could see the words clearly, excellent size font even the notes and commentaries are easily readable.

I never heard of this Weirsbe guy, perhaps I should have, there are a lot of learned individuals adding their two-cents to the word of God (respectfully of course). Dr. Warren W. Wiersbe is a Bible Teacher, Speaker and author who is known internationally. His credentials are long and worth examining further but it is the NKJV Bible that he has put his editorial spin on that I am interested in.

You can read the features found in this book by looking at the book store or examining it on line. What I want to share with you is how wonderful this particular Bible is for those who are studying. If you have read any of my Bible reviews you know I have favorites but let me tell you THE WIERSBE STUDY BIBLE is my new favorite NKJV Bible! I could have written this review sooner but I began using it for my own personal Bible study and forgot to write one.

THE WIERSBE STUDY BIBLE can be an addition for those of us who love studying the Word of YHWH. It is a study that leads to a study; you will be researching one thing read a comment or a “Catalyst” note and decide you have to read more on ‘that’.

What is a Catalyst?  Short essays that help the reader apply Scripture to his every day life. For example:  In Genesis 12:4 Abram obeys GOD and departs from his home, the CATALYST discussion is “What Faith Does”. This mini-lesson allows the student to tie in old and new Covenant Scriptures and apply them to his every day life.

There are so many reasons why a person would buy this old school size Bible but the main reason to get this one is because you would actually use it.          Written by Marsha L F Randolph

THE MAXWELL LEADERSHIP BIBLE Published by Thomas Nelson

I have had a copy of   THE MAXWELL LEADERSHIP BIBLE  since 2005,which is why I was very interested in reviewing the THIRD EDITION  of the New King James Version of the Bible with notes by the famous author / speaker John C Maxwell.  Two questions I am asking myself:
  1. Why would anyone purchase a John C Maxwell Bible?
  2. Is it necessary to get the newer edition if you have an older one?
Superficially, the newer copy has a great book cover but the Bible itself is red with writing on the sleeve identifying it as THE MAXWELL LEADERSHIP BIBLE - John C Maxwell NKJV. The print is bolder much easier to read. The older version I have , copyright 2002, has 1,616 pages whereas the newer one has 1,629. But we are looking for the added value as is provided by John C Maxwell himself  so let's now look at content.

First I see an exert from the writings of Kevin A. Myers "What On Earth Is God Doing? Pretty much an overview of the Bible from Genesis to Revelation - confirming that there is nothing happening today that is a surprise to God.

As I moved forward into the Bible itself, beginning with the beginning I noticed how information is presented is different but it is still the same information. Both Bibles present Mr. Maxwell's teachings on leadership laws, qualities. and issues as well as Profiles in leadership.

But with the newer edition there is more!  For years, perhaps decades, John C Maxwell has shared his knowledge of leadership from a biblical perspective through speeches, classes and book. Anyone who has ever read the Bible knows that every time you read it you learn something- THE MAXWELL LEADERSHIP BIBLE contains the somethings Mr. Maxwell has learned over the years some of which you will find in greater detail in his books.

Why would anyone purchase THE MAXWELL LEADERSHIP BIBLE?  Because Christians have to distinguish themselves from worldly leadership and the only way to do this is by studying God's words. By having leadership principles and their modern day applications pointed out being a God pleaser and not a man pleaser is that much easier.

Is it necessary to get the newer edition if you have an older one? I would say YES, if you don't have all of John C Maxwell's leadership books. NO, if you have and have read all of John C Maxwell's leadership books.  YES, if you are like me and like the idea of having reminders of various principles written in your Bible.

Though this is a review copy and I often give away such Bibles- this one is a keeper for me!

ANCIENT MODERN BIBLE- NKJV Published Thomas Nelson

Let's face it, if you want a New King James Version or even King James Version Bible you can go to the dollar store and get one. Any person going to a book store wants more than a Bible, every year there are numerous Bibles and Bible translations released, the decision as to which to purchase is not just KJ or NKJ.

Thomas Nelson Publishing company introduces a new concept of the New King James Bible version with ANCIENT-MODERN BIBLE One Faith. Handed down. For All Saints. My complimentary copy came in a the beautiful gold box you see in the picture. The Bible itself has a White hard cover with Gold and bronze  print. As many of Thomas Nelson's newer Bibles it is presented  in it's trademark comfort print (that means it is easy to read).

So, what makes this Bible unique? The presentation of commentary from voices of the past, biographies of celebrated men and women of faith, and general information to help facilitate an excellent study of God's words.  As an added bonus: "The Art of the Church" a section found at the end of the Bible contains copies of famous paintings.

Contrary to what I usually write, this is not one of my new "favorite" Bibles. I appreciate the insertion of words Eugene Peterson, Jack Hayford, C H. Spurgeon and so many more. Every believer should be familiar with the great believers of the past thus the  mini- biographies of such grates as John Wesley make this a worth while addition to my collection.      written by Marsha L F Randolph

NKJV SPIRIT-GILLED LIFE BIBLE Published by Thomas Nelson

Bibles are Bibles are Bibles are Bibles..... Aside from the different translations- King James, New King James, NIV, and so forth- many people just grab the first Bible they see on the shelf. Far too many people don’t own a print Bible, opting for an electronic device to present the Word to them BUT for those who desire to study the word of God Thomas Nelson has published the NKJV SPIRIT-FILLED LIFE BIBLE - Kingdom Equipping Through the Power of the Word; Jack W. Hayford Executive Editor, this is the revised and updated 3rd edition.

I am reviewing the elegant black genuine leather NKJV SPIRIT-FILLED LIFE BIBLE a book guaranteed to make any Bible collector stand in line to get their copy. (Not everyone has to have the latest cell phone!)  The thumb index, tabs I call them, are a luxury item I have not seen in a Bible in decades and with 3 ribbons to mark you place it is definitely worthy of at least taking it for a spin! (I am full of metaphors today!)

When a person declares I have my sword and holds up his Bible if you see the NKJV SPIRIT FILLED LIFE BIBLE you will know it is double edged. The contributors of this edition includes a host of men and women known throughout Christiandom for their knowledge of Scripture and their ability to teach it.

The NKJV SPIRIT-FILLED LIFE BIBLE contains commentary and lessons designed to feed your soul is food for the soul. The book of Books highlight: Kingdom Dynamics; Word Wealth; Praying the Word; Truth in Action.  The Concordance is legible and more extensive than other Bibles I have seen. I rarely look at the maps however you will not be disappointed if you look at one both in text and at the end of the Book. As with many Bibles there are cross-references to some verses and footnotes.

If you were looking to purchase a great Bible for yourself or as a gift to that Bible enthusiast you know this has to be it or at least in the running.       -written by Marsha L F Randolph

THE VINES EXPOSITORY BIBLE - NKJV published by Thomas Nelson

Gone are the days in which a person simple goes to a bookstore and grabs a King James or New King James version of the Bible. Once upon a time the only options a person had was the type of cover a Bible had. Today, the accompanying supplements to a Bible can make a person grab the cheapest Bible off the shelf and move on BUT DON’T DO IT!

Thomas Nelson publishing has once again present an option to those who want to read Scripture with understanding in the form of THE VINES EXPOSITORY BIBLE. Hmmm, that sounds like a pretty serious compilation of information, perhaps it is to much for the novice reader; it is not.

Expository: to bring clarity by presenting information in a more detailed way (my defintion).

The VINES EXPOSITORY BIBLE General Editor Jerry Vines, Pastor First Baptist Church Jacksonville FL, Retired, is a New King James version of the Bible that contains various Bible study helps. As listed on the back of the jacket the study helps include: 205 Presenting Messages, 148 Living the Message, 237 Applying the Message, 311 Discerning the Meaning, introductions to each book, a topical index and a concordance; and of course there are maps. I personally appreciate Bible application thus reading “An Anguished Cry” found in Lamentations (APPLYING THE MESSAGE| Lam. 1:12) was not only thought provoking but made the book all the more relevant to today. To discuss the sections entitled PRESENTING THE MESSAGE would make this review longer than it already is however I must say- if you are a Church Leader of any level you will definitely appreciate this discussion.

I firmly believe it is very important that people own a tangible copy of the Bible, for those who really want to know what ‘thus sayeth the Lord’ this is a Bible worth purchasing. -written by Marsha L F Randolph

NKJV MINISTERS BIBLE

Thomas Nelson’s NKJV MINISTER’S BIBLE is the first Bible I have reviewed that was not what I expected. What I thought I was going to read were commentaries that were historical in nature and suggestions as to how to present information. I anticipated seeing a lot of Greek, Hebrew and Aramaic words noted within the text. I did not see any of what I was expecting.

Tucked between the book of Malachi and the book of Matthew is what I would refer to as Pastoral cheat sheets. It is a book within a book containing “Resources for the Minister”; a compilation of how-tos. The sections include: Weddings, from pre-marital counseling to the actual ceremony; Dedications, Baptisms and the Lord’s Supper; Worship, including a worksheet to help plan the entire service; Pastoral Care, which includes ministering to the both Believer and un-Believer; Invitations, a.k.a. Alter Call; and of course Funerals. If you wanted to start your own church this would be a good Bible to get.

Personally, all book reviews are personal, I felt much of the Pastoral information presented was denominational. As I read some of the suggested plans/ remarks / ideas I thought: This sounds like what I have seen in a Catholic service. Other times I could see a traditional Baptist church flair. This is why Scripture instructs novices not to be in the ministry.
The NKJV MINISTER’S BIBLE is a great source and one I will definitely keep. For the experienced leader the information provided is a great guideline which can be adjusted according to one’s faith. There are Pastoral books that contain this information, having it in your Bible is a great idea.

This Bible is not for everyone but would make an excellent gift to one entering the ministry. Physically the Bible is beautiful enclosed in a unique box that you will not want to throw away. — written by Marsha L F Randolph

NKJV STUDY BIBLE FOR KIDS published by TOMMY NELSON

The NKJV STUDY BIBLE FOR KIDS published by  THOMAS “TOMMY” NELSON is presented specifically for children ages 8-12 (note: I do not particularly care for the word “Kids”.)  A New King James Bible translation with study notes, it is unique because of the presentation of color and the commentary which targets young people.

I like the study emphasis that are presented in the “Spotlight”  sections that encourage the reader to: Read it, Get it, Live it. There are also text blocks that present: “Epic Ideas”  and calls to “Action.” All of the text box / commentaries have a movie theme icon assocated with it even the “In Focus” text blocks, which are short one or two sentence statements.

As far as Bibles go, for young men and women it is good. The commentaries are written so as to not overwhelm the reader with college level terms but not insulting to the mind of a 14 year old, though the target reader is 8-12. The dictionary -concordance in the back of the book has words in it that shed light as to how to pronounce many of the names found in the Bible.  Also note worthy, the introduction to each book is brief, to the point and easy to grasp.

This is a good starter Bible and worth purchasing.    - - written by Marsha L F Randolph

KJV KNOW THE WORD STUDY BIBLE Published by Thomas Nelson

It is amazing the number of Study Bibles available today. Study Bibles can be an asset however I always encourage people to pray before you read and allow the Spirit to help you with your understanding. But for those numerous occasions in which you get stuck Bibles usch as Thomas Nelson’s KJV KNOW THE WORD STUDY BIBLE will help.

When I recieved the KJV KNOW THE WORD STUDY BIBLE I was just beginning a study of the book Song of Solomon. I am using THE KING JAMES STUDY BIBLE - Full Color Edition (also published by Thomas Nelson) I thought this would be a great opportunity to compare and contrast. I recently decided to start reading the KJV of the Bible more than others.

The KJV KNOW THE WORD STUDY BIBLE does not have as in depth introduction as my Bible does. Nor does the introductory discussion cover as broad a spectrum of interpretations to the book of Solomon but this is a good thing. Sometimes all you need is a book over view. Unlike my Bible the KJV KNOW THE WORD STUDY BIBLE is light on the graphics and heavy on commentary.

This Bible is actually more like other study Bibles I have it helps direct the reader through the book. Reading this Bible will help the person apply the word to his or her life. The purpose of THE KJV KNOW THE WORD STUDY BIBLE is to help the reader “gain a greater understanding of the Bible - book by book, verse by verse, topic by topic” I think this is accomplished. Of course there are maps and there is a concordance that most Bibles include for reference and it has a concordance all in the back of the book.

This is a great Bible for someone who has never purchased a Study Bible. — written by Marsha L F Randolph

NKJV STUDY BIBLE- PERSONAL SIZE

There was a time in which everyone carried a Bible to church and then many churches started showing the Bible verses on a big screen. Today many people have a Bible as an application on their cell phone or they bring a tablet or ipad to church. I have a Bible on my cell phone, lap top and even on the tablet I owned before it died. BUT my favorite Bibles I have in print form including the NKJV STUDY BIBLE published by Thomas Nelson. Last year I started carrying this very thick Bible to church with me.

It is important that we get into the habit of reading and studying the Bible the old fashioned way.  In the event that there is no internet or electricity you can still read the Word. In addition it is good when to personalize the Word with your own notes, underlines and highlights that you can review later.

Since I already have a NKJV STUDY BIBLE to those who do not appreciate owning a print Bible it does not make sense to want to review the NKJV STUDY BIBLE - PERSONAL SIZE.  To a Bible junkie (there are a lot of us out there) you can never own to many Bibles and every Bible has a purpose. For me I would prefer to be able to throw my NKJV Bible in my purse taking it with me where ever I go: church, doctors’ office, vacation, or visiting someone who may need to hear the word.

The NKJV STUDY BIBLE -PERSONAL SIZE is like its’ standard size Bible a ‘complete resource for studying God’s word” only smaller. It has the same number of pages thus every chapter and every verse page are the same. Maps, images and other inserts are in color just as the standard sized Bible. The two differences are the size though it is almost the same thickness and the font size. The font is readable with my glasses on. In terms of fitting in my purse- it does- I carry a medium size purse.

I own pocket sized Bibles this one is considerably bigger (5 1/4x8x 2); it is ‘personal’ Sized not pocket sized.  Of course I recommend this Bible.

THE WORD OF PROMISE NEW TESTAMENT -AUDIO NKJV BIBLE

I am going to assume that many people are reading this review have never read one of my reviews.
I love Bibles I do not like recorded translations. I have Bibles on CD and listened to a few recorded versions. I gave away a very expensive Bible on CD that included the Old and New Testament. When the opportunity to review THE WORD OF PROMISE - NEW TESTAMENT audio NKJV Bible I hesitated before agreeing to listen.

My first impression: great packaging; it will fit on my bookshelf beside my other Bibles very well!

THE WORD OF PROMISE NEW TESTAMENT - AUDIO NKJV BIBLE  is released by Thomas Nelson;  CD produced by Jim Cavizel and Raymond Arroyo, produced by Carl Amari. It is truly a production.

As I listened to the CD I became irritated with the background music that seem to overpower the words. Then I listened to the character of Jesus- I was not impressed. I did like the narrator.

What is good the pace of the dialog is easy to read along. I would not discourage anyone from purchasing this CD set because I know I can be a Bible snob and I would purchase this as a gift for a friend who has never read the Bible before.

This is the New King James Translation of the Bible and as I said a person can read along or just listen. One chapter per track makes it easy to listen at your own pace, and the list price is very reasonable. BUY IT- I recommend it despite my prejudices.  Xxx MARSHA L F RANDOLPH

FOOTNOTE: My husband who does not read his Bible as much as I read mine- likes it!!!!!

NIV BIBLE FOR MEN published by Zondervan

Obviously I did no get this Bible for me and the men in my family, even my young grandson, have Bibles. I chose to review NIV BIBLE FOR MEN because there are not to many Bibles of note that are dedicated to men. This being the Christmas season I am sure quite a few people will be purchasing a Bible as a gift.

I have read the NIV Bible from Genesis to Revelation in the past so when I received the NIV BIBLE FOR MEN published by ZONDERVAN I wanted to see what type of extras there were. My first impression: this is a great Bible and I do recommend it, not just for men. Why?

Within this particular Bible are 260 Daily Readings a life application reading presented by various Pastors, most of whom I have not heard of.  Conceptually one reading could be read Monday through Friday in addition to a persons reading for the day. These readings are placed strategically to compliment what is read for example Genesis chapter 15 discusses God’s promise to Abram for a son and we know that Abram impregnated Sarai’s maid this was not God’s plan. On page 20  the daily reading (D5) shared
by  Halim Suh Pastor of Equipping at the Stone Community Church in Austin Texas contribution we find:
“Living the gap between promises and reality’
“Key Verse: Genesis 15:6”
“Understand the context Genesis 15”
“Even though we know that God is present and all-powerful, it’s often hard to trust him during the tough times in life.”
This is followed by an elaboration of this introductory sentence and concludes with a test box entitled- “Bring it to Lif
e”
These presentations not only introduce the world to leaders within the church community that are not as well known as others but teach biblical principles to men of God.

Once a week the reader is introduced to a concept that many believe but are false. 52 Myths that look at unhealthy behaviors and beliefs specifically accepted by men. (In looking at the myths I know must women do not believe they are true.) For example: Myth #2 Living together can help you avoid big trouble down the road. (Page 84) Myth #34 My anger is justified. (page 1104) Did I say these myths do not apply to the way women think?

NIV BIBLE FOR MEN is an excellent Bible for men of all ages however it is definitely something women can read and appreciate. I would suggest purchasing this Bible for yourself, if you are a man, for your fiance’, for your father,, for your sons, for your husband or any other man who wants to discover how relevant God’s word is today.  —Marsha L Randolph

NKJV PROPHECY STUDY BIBLE John Hagee General Editior

Generally speaking most people will purchase a standard Bible without a commentary or they will ignore the commentaries that are a part of the book. People who intentionally purchase study Bibles, Bibles with: comments, cross references, historical data and other advance information do so because of the additional information. The problem then becomes which of the many study Bibles available do you choose.

The NKJV PROPHECY STUDY BIBLE , John Hagee General Editor; is the newest edition of study Bibles in the Thomas Nelson publishing house collection. It’s relevance is made plain in the subtitle: “Understanding God’s Message In The Last Days.”

Every time I review a study Bible, particular my favorite translation the New King James, I  learn something new from the commentary and the supplemental information provided. The NKJV PROPHECY STUDY BIBLE addresses something I firmly believe: we are at the ending of times.

Once you get past the Forward written by John C. Hagee and the list of the Books of the Bible and before you reach Genesis you will come gains very valuable information that makes this book worth while. Important information which you would traditionally have to look for in the back of the book is conveniently in the front. I was particularly interested in the section on Events on the End Times” which includes a discussion on the rapture and the tribulation. So what is at the back of the book? The concordance and maps of course.

Throughout the Bible portion of the NKJV PROPHECY STUDY BILE are other helps including: “20 Questions About Bible Prophecy” and “Diamonds for Daily Living.” In terms of a study Bible I would say this one is more challenging for me personally because it contains more information that I am not familiar with, in other words it is not a cookie-cutter study Bible. I like it!

I recommend the NKJV PROPHECY STUDY BIBLE - Understanding God’s Message In The Last Days” I think everyone should read this one however if you have never read the Bible from Genesis to Revelation before you may not read this one in 12 months.

NIrV GIANT PRINT HOLY BIBLE - Zondervan Publishers

I can see! When I opened up the NIrV GIANT PRINT HOLY BIBLE published by Zondervan I was amazed to see “super sized” fonts!
I had heard of, and have several versions of the NIV Bible but never had I heard of the New International Reader’s Version Bible. Promoted as a Bible that is not only easy to read like the NIV but easy to read and understand no matter who is reading it. This is important because many people skip the introduction which contains valuable information regarding how this particular translation was written and notes regarding particular verses.
Did you know that some verses are not included in various translations because some of the original translations did not have them?
Whereas many Bibles have a concordance in the back the NIrV GIANT PRINT HOLY BIBLE has a dictionary which though is not extensive does carry basic definition that are important for Believers to know.  Instead of a Topical Index there is a list of  150 famous Bible Stories.

I chose to read various Scriptures that are often quoted and familiar. This included: Psalm 23 and 91, Proverbs 31, Matthew 6:33 (my favorite verse) Hebrews 11 and lastly Genesis 1. In comparison with its’ counter the NIV Bible the words are not the same, it is even more simplistic.

Part of the beauty of the Bible is the poetic flow of the words. Unfortunately in making the book a much easier read it takes away from some of the majesty. For example we can read in Psalms 23:1: “The Lord is my Shepherd. He gives me everything I need.”  Though this is what ‘the Lord is my Shepherd I shall not want’ means there is a difference.

I think this is a good Bible and if you or someone you know has a desire to read the Bible but lack the motivation to read a more traditional translation the NIrV GIANT PRINT HOLY BIBLE is worth it. My only hope is that after reading this translation the individual would eventually advance to one of the not so simplistic version. I do recommend this Bible, if for no other reason the font is excellent.

NIV BIBLE FOR WOMEN

To me the idea of having a “Bible for women” is not necessary there are many on the market already. But, I find myself reviewing Zondervan’s NIV BIBLE FOR WOMEN. As I opened the Bible to the book of Job I wanted to answer two questions: Why is it necessary to have a Bible for women? How could they spin the book of Job to encourage women?

NIV BIBLE FOR WOMEN is, needles to say, the New International Version Bible translation. It contains has 260 devotions that include: a concept presented by various authors, a short reflection and then ideas as to how one could incorporate the revelation  in prayer. It also addresses 52 myths, philosophies many have regarding faith that are not true. Each myth is based on a specific testimony which has a response based on what the bible says.
I have read the NIV Bible on more than one occasion yet the New King James remains my favorite translation.
For the purpose of this review I decided to examine what “women” issues could be discovered in the book of Job. The answer was found in Myth #49 “If I pray about my problem will it go away.”  If you are familiar with the trials Job went through you will understand how what Job went through relates to what the woman “Stephanie” experienced. The response to the question was well worth reading and appropriately placed in the book of Job.
This is not the first “women’s” Bible that I have had. I received one as a gift from a dear friend - I gave that Bible to my youngest daughter. I purchased a different “women’s” Bible for my oldest daughter many years ago. In comparing Zondervan’s Bible with the other two women’s Bible NIV BIBLE FOR WOMEN is more applicable to the life of todays women and men too.

I like this Bible and I do recommend it. The problem I now have is: do I keep it or do I give the NIV BIBLE FOR WOMEN to my daughter who already asked could she have it.

*Font note: My hard cover copy was not large print but it was easier to read than other standard prints. If you are a reader of my reviews you know my aging eyes do not like small fonts!

NIV ESSENTIALS STUDY BIBLE

It is difficult to describe such an awesome Bible in 300 words or less without omitting some interesting feature yet I will give it a try.  THE NIV Essentials Study Bible aptly named because for anyone studying the Word this is an essential tool.
I have read quite a few Bible translations from Genesis to Revelations on more than one occasion, this includes having read the New International Version a.k.a. NIV Bible at least twice. What the NIV Essentials Study Bible does is incorporate everything I need in one book.
Since I am currently studying the book of Isaiah in my personal Bible study this is the book I chose for review in order to make my assessment.

  • The Key Concepts is a great feature since it gives the reader an idea of what to expect.  The three bullet points were brief and significant.
  • I truly appreciated the picture in the About section  which included a mini-history lesson.
  • Key Verses are in other study Bibles that I own thus its’ placement was not a surprise but truly appreciated.
  • It became obvious as I read the Key Teachings that the collaborators of the NIV Essentials Study Bible wanted the reader to focus on the Bible itself and not their opinions  as once again each bullet point was short and without commentary.
  • What is not in any of my other study Bibles but a feature I love is Key Terms.
  • In addition to the personality profile People in Focus which is a detailed biography there is also an introductory mention of individuals to look for or People To Know.
  • A timeline is essential when you are studying the Bible thus When Did Things Happen is something a reader will want to review.   Compared to the timeline in my other study Bibles, I like this one better.
  • Do you think it would be helpful to have a map in places where you need it and not at the end of the book? Well with NIV Essentials Study Bible  they are.
As if this was not enough there are Q & A sections great for group or personal Bible study,  verse Commentaries,  Reflections and Response, verse highlights, historical tid-bits and so much more.

This is my new favorite Bible. I recommend you purchase one for yourself and a friend. xxx Marsha L Randolph

I received a complimentary copy of this Bible in order to present my honest review of which I have.
